Children should be taught to say NO to foods that contribute nothing to nutrition and are only high on calories. Cut down on white rice, white bread and maida-based products. Stop oily, deep-fried food, allow desserts on specific days instead of every day and add mixed vegetable soups, salads and sprouts to their diet. Instead of burgers and cheesy pizzas, introduce the child to healthy eating habits. Don’t just regulate the food and quantity of intake; also discipline children on the meal timings and place — eating while watching TV or browsing their phones should be a strict No-No. Encourage them to treat their meals as a complete experience for them to feel full.
