Cats are finicky eaters and sometimes it is confusing to know if they are sick or just holding out for something that they like better. Commercial diets, whether dry or canned, are attractive and they should have them at least two or three times per day. If your cat is younger than one year of age and stops eating, you should get them evaluated right away by a veterinarian. Older cats may appear not to eat for long hours, but if you leave out food, they will normally get enough. If you see that your cat has not eaten in more than 24 hours, call your veterinarian for advice.
