Cabbage is great for weight loss because of its low calorie content and nutritional benefits. Rich in essential nutrients like fibre that improves digestion and keeps you full longer, it also has a high water content that can promote satiety. While choosing a cabbage, whether green, white or purple, look for bright firm leaves. Check the stem. If it is dry, chances are the cabbage will have a sharp flavour which can be unpleasant. To get rid of the strong smell associated with cooking cabbage, add vinegar or lemon juice to the cooking water, use a lid, or place a bowl of vinegar in the kitchen while cooking.
