Weight loss, it is said, doesn’t begin in the gym with a dumb bell; it starts in your head with a decision. Here’s how you could do it:
Make a commitment to yourself. You’re precious. You deserve to be healthy and live a better life. When you take charge of your health, lose excess weight, you’re making a commitment. Honour it. Once you’ve made this commitment, you’ll be surprised at how you can make time available for cooking right and moving every single day. You can even make a formal promise to yourself, in writing.
Change your perspective. Stop considering your workout a punishment and start making it a treat. Challenge yourself to find ways that you can make your workout more fun. How about adding music? You could also mix up your usual routine, which not only helps prevent boredom but also can help avoid weight loss plateau. If you’re getting bored, set yourself a new exercise goal. This can help get you rejuvenated and excited about exercising.
Encourage yourself. Be your own best friend. Buy products that will motivate you to work out. Treat yourself to a delicious smoothie after reaching a particular goal, or then allow yourself to binge-watch your favourite show on the weekend. Acknowledge and appreciate the surge of endorphins – the feel-good chemicals released in the brain after a great gym session that give you a high. Once you’ve trained your brain to recognise that the workout itself is the reward, you won’t even need the treat!
