How Bromelain Fights Obesity, Inflammation

Chronic inflammation caused by the effects of poor diet, smoking, obesity, stress, and environmental toxins can instigate or exacerbate a wide range of illnesses, including arthritis, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and even Alzheimer’s. Research done at Duke University has found that both fresh and frozen pineapple are effective at decreasing the incidence and severity of inflammatory diseases. Bromelain has also been used to reduce inflammation from arthritis, sinusitis, sprains and strains. Says a study published in the ‘International Journal of Molecular Sciences’, consuming pineapple or its extract (especially bromelain) can lower BMI, decrease adipose tissue, reduce serum leptin, and inhibit inflammation pathways.
