Self-monitoring can help you lose weight. When you decide to lose weight, if you log everything you eat for a month or more, then you and your nutrition expert can review the logbook and identify trends. Do you tend to eat empty calorie foods in the evening when you’re tired and are watching television or Netflix? Or do you eat out more often than you originally thought? You could be eating less fibre than you need or having sweetened juices that don’t do you any favours. If you can identify inconsistencies, relook at benefits and drawbacks, you can make a fully informed decision. You can limit your portion sizes when dining out, and ensure that you fill up on lower calorie, vegetable-based items like salads, vegetable soups, and steamed vegetables.
