To keep your pet on an ideal weight, make sure to discuss the portion size with your vet. A medium-sized adult dog weighs 25 to 35 pounds. Your vet will be able to guide you to determine the right portion size for your dog, especially if they have weight issues or are very small or large. Take into consideration your pet’s age, level of activity, their metabolism, and health issues, if any. Although every dog’s needs are different, here are some general guidelines for how much to feed a healthy adult dog:
If your dog weighs
- Between 0–5 lbs, you can feed them dry food up to 3/4 cup.
- Between 20-40 lbs – 2 cups–3 1/3 cups.
- Between 80–100 lbs – 5 3/4 cups–6 3/4 cups.
Remember, 1 cup = 8 ounces.
