Like a juice detox, soup cleanses help to boost weight loss and boost your energy. Soups are a delicious way to get plenty of disease-fighting antioxidants and phytochemicals and, due to their high water content, complex carbs, protein and fibre, they also make a super-filling meal with very few calories. Here are some tips to enjoy this fat-busting food:
- For the base of your soups use organic low sodium broth or home-made vegetable or bone broths – ideally make one huge pan of base stock and use it for all of your soups for three days.
- Use plenty of herbs and spices like chilli, coriander (fresh and powder), cumin, cinnamon, turmeric, ginger, basil, garlic, fresh mint, parsley and dill for their flavour and cleansing benefits.
- Have one or two soups a day that include protein like chicken, tofu, egg or prawns.
- Bulk up one or two soups a day with ¼ cup cooked quinoa, brown rice, buckwheat or barley or add lentils, peas or beans (aduki, moong, chickpea, white beans, black beans etc).
