Hara Hachi Bu

A study, published in the ‘Journal of Biogerontology’, studied a group of Okinawans who had been in a state of calorie restriction approximately half of their adult lives. These people routinely practice the lifestyle of ‘Hara Hachi Bu’, which means eating until you judge yourself only 80% full. The Okinawans have more people living over the age of 100 than any other human population, and have significantly lower incidence of heart disease, stroke and cancer. Eat to that same 80% level and leave yourself 20% empty for a while. Before long you will stop expecting a stuffed feeling, and find yourself eating less as a way of life. Needless to say, as a part of better health, you will also lose weight.
