When it comes to treats and sugary foods, teach children that while these foods taste great, they are best eaten less frequently than everyday foods because they don’t fit in well with a diet that will make them healthy, bright, and strong. Clarify what is not right about the food, and put this in context to help a child understand why we should limit some things. But, assure them that they can have them on special occasions. This way, on the right occasion, they can eat these foods guilt-free and with complete enjoyment. Ask them, if they eat cakes all the time, what will they celebrate their birthday with?
