Do Your Kids Get Enough Exercise?

If you believe that your kids run around enough during the school day and so let them flop in front of the screen for hours at home, you may want to rethink. The truth is that most children don’t get enough exercise during the school day. A lot of kids spend their breaks simply hanging out, chatting or playing video games. If your child is overweight, they are more likely to pursue this option.

There are things you can do to help them without it getting overwhelming for the child and tedious for you. Walking is often an ideal activity for an overweight child who dislikes sports. It requires no equipment and there is no competition or comparison involved. You can make walking fun for them. Start slowly and build up gradually. If they wish to take tiny breaks initially, let them. If they find music inspirational, bring it along. You can even take the dog for a walk together. Or then, depending on their age, set a children’s gym play set at home, which would include swing, climbing ladder, rope disc, a swing or trapeze bar with rings, an obstacle course etc. It would be great on the days when the weather is too hot or too cold, or just to bring a variety in the physical activity.
