Monitoring the health and wellbeing of a pet dog may indicate how well its owner is. A team from the University of Newcastle, Australia, attached movement sensors to the dogs and tracked their behaviour to look for any anomalies that suggested an issue with the owner. According to the research, a dog’s physical and emotional wellbeing is likely to reflect that of their owner. Any changes, such as the dog being walked less, or simply demonstrating ‘unhappy’ behaviour could be an early indicator for family members that their dog-owning relative needs help.
