Encouraging children to eat healthy foods can be a challenge, but it doesn’t have to be. There are several ways to make eating healthy meals and snacks more exciting for kids:
Lead by example. Eating healthy yourself is one of the best things you can do to get your child interested in doing the same. By modeling good habits around food and exercise, you are setting an example that will lead your child down the path of better nutrition choices.
Make mealtime fun. Incorporate fun elements into regular mealtimes like adding colorful toppings or making food of fun shapes.
Include them in meal planning and preparation. Cooking meals with your kids is an excellent way to get them more involved with their food choices. Invite them to help you shop for ingredients, plan recipes, and even prepare the dishes. This can be a great bonding experience while teaching your children valuable nutrition lessons as well.
Provide healthy snacks throughout the day. Keep cut-up fruit, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seeds on hand so they are easy for kids to grab when they need a snack. These are healthier options and will keep them away from tempting processed snacks that are high in sugar and calories but low in nutritional value.
