Flaxseed And Berry Oatmeal

With a mix of soluble fibre and essential fatty acids, flaxseed makes a great addition to your yogurt, smoothie, or salad. A natural appetite suppressant, it will help you stay full for long. Berries, too, are high in fibre content and promote satiety. Oats are a natural appetite suppressant as well.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole milk, (you can also use almond milk or any other nut milk)
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 2 tbsp. ground flaxseed powder
  • 1/4 tsp. kosher salt
  • 1/2 cup mix of fresh blueberries, sliced strawberries, raspberries, or blackberries
  • 2 tbsp. roughly chopped almonds and/or walnuts
  • 1 tbsp. maple syrup or honey

Method

  • In a small saucepan, bring milk and water to a boil over medium heat.
  • Reduce the heat to medium-low and stir in oats, flaxseed, and salt. Cook for 6-7 minutes, uncovered, or until the oats are tender and almost all of the liquid has been absorbed. Stir frequently.
  • Remove from heat, cover, and let the oatmeal rest for a few minutes before serving. Stir in a little milk for desired consistency.
  • Divide between two serving bowls. Top with berries, chopped nuts and maple syrup. Serve immediately.
