Fight Fat With Gotu Kola

Gotu kola is an edible nutrient-dense leafy green often used in Asian cuisine and traditional medicine. Though it has a slightly bitter, grassy taste, it is useful for supporting cognitive function, skin health, and circulation. Gotu kola improves skin elasticity and collagen synthesis, and has been shown to reduce the development of cellulite. It is incorporated in fat-burning creams. Says research that appears in the ‘Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology’, several studies have shown significant improvement in cellulite and skin texture in up to 85% of those treated with gotu kola. Research has found that a twice daily topical application of a lotion containing gotu kola, along with aminophylline, caffeine, yohimbe, and l‐carnitine for 28 days, is effective at reducing thigh circumference, thigh skinfold thickness, and thigh fat mass. These ingredients typically work by accelerating lipolysis (the release of fat from cells) and inhibiting the storage of fat, often through the inhibition of enzymes that degrade fat-breaking signals (cAMP).
