Eat Without Distractions

Only eat when you’re seated at the dining table. Mindless eating while you’re doing other things can lead to overconsumption. Research from the University of Sussex suggests that eating in front of the TV can see you indulging in less healthy foods, whereas sitting at a table to eat, mindfully, consciously, may encourage healthier selections. A study, published in the journal ‘Physiology & Behavior’, has found that people who ate slowly consumed fewer calories overall compared to those who ate quickly or while standing.

Many people scroll their phones while having a meal. But keeping distractions like the phone away while eating encourages you to be more present and in communication with your food. This will lead to a greater appreciation for it and contentment. When you eat consciously, while seated at a table, you are more likely to recognise your body’s fullness cues, which can lead to you eating fewer calories.
