Like people, cats and dogs, birds too get fat. Pet birds don’t have much opportunity for daily exercise, unlike birds in the wild that fly during daily activities like flying to look for food, to escape predators, and more.
If you do keep pet birds at home, don’t feed them a diet consisting mostly of high-fat seeds. Seeds are deficient in many vitamins and minerals but because they taste good, the birds are hooked on them. Switching them to a more suitable diet consisting mainly of pellets, with smaller amounts of fresh vegetables and fruit, will help them lose weight.
