Be Flexible

Lifestyle-based interventions for weight loss need to be flexible. Your plans, that may have seemed perfect at the time you started, may need some adjustment later. For instance, you may get a new job, or get married, or may have to suddenly bear family or caregiving responsibilities. The gym close to your home or the swimming pool near you shuts down so your workouts are disrupted.

If you are flexible in your approach and have some room for readjustment you can absorb changes and are better able to deal with these situations. You also need to step back and reassess your plan from time to time. This will let you see what is working for your weight goals and what isn’t. It will help you work harder on something that’s not working, or replace the idea with a new one, and also know what you have successfully achieved.
